Welcome to Bembridge
As one of two airfields on the Isle of Wight, Bembridge is an exciting destination for any GA pilot. The short hop across the Solent means it's within easy reach of the UK mainland - and the flight over takes in some stunning views of nearby sights such as the Spinnaker tower and Portsmouth Dockyard.
The airfield was built in 1920, with commercial flights to London beginning in 1934. The airfield was closed during WWII but reopened with a paved runway (the only one on the island) in the 1960s, when Britten Norman - creators of the BN2 Islander - moved to the airfield in order to start production of their aircraft.
Today, the site is not available for commercial operations, but is an exciting GA Airfield. Be sure to take in the spectacular views on your final approach, before stopping for a coffee and maybe even a slice of cake in the wonderful Propeller Inn.
